A rodless cylinder with mechanical joining differs from a basic air cylinder in that no piston rod extends outside the cylinder body. Instead, the internal piston is connected to an external carriage. SMC's rodless cylinders are ideal for long stroke applications because they are unaffected by rod overhang, bending, piston binding, and uneven seal wear, and for use in confined areas where space is a premium.
The rodless cylinder, basic type can be combined with a variety of guides to accommodate conditions. This is a simple design without guides to facilitate space savings.
The rodless cylinder with a slide bearing type comes with on integrated guide. This can be used in a medium loading situation and allow direct mounting of a work piece.
The rodless cylinder with a cam follower type makes smooth operation possible even with an off-set load. This can be used in a offset loading situation, high accuracy and long strokes.
The rodless cylinder with a linear guide type are ideal for pick and place applications. This uses a linear guide to achieve high repeatability.
The rodless cylinder with a high precision guide type are ideal for transfer and pick and place of high load work pieces. This uses two linear guides to allow higher loading.
The rodless cylinder with a protective cover type are good when the cylinder is exposed to powder, dust and water drops. The protective cover only minimally adds to the overall length and width.
